Personal
Research area
As a clinical researcher I passionately combine research and care for persons with spinal cord injury with the overall aim to support people with spinal cord injury to achieve an optimal level of functional independence.
I strive to deliver state of the art care for these persons based on the latest research insights. I am responsible for the research line on spinal cord injury which focuses on improving mobility with innovative solutions to improve both health as well as daily functioning.
This is what I am most proud of
For the past two years, I am most proud on the overall progress made in the foundation of the research line on mobility after spinal cord injury.
Building on department’s expertise on health and physical activity I wrote a vision on future reseach on spinal cord injury. We prepared, started and cooperated in a large diversity of research projects that shape the research line on mobility. Besides collaboration with other scientific staff members, we started research collaborations with other departments of the Erasmus Medical Center, (inter)national research groups, rehabilitation centres, universities (of applied science) and companies. An important example of a project that includes healthcare, science and innovative technology is the Convergency project. This project, a collaboration between the Erasmus Medical Center, the Technical University Delft and Rijndam Rehabilitation, aims to develop innovative gait analysis and interventions.
Milestones for the coming 2 years
- Milestones for the coming two years are the completion of the Convergency project and start of a follow-up project.
- Another important milestone is the start of a large research project on walking behaviour after incomplete spinal cord injury. This project forms an important foundation for further research and improvement of healthcare for persons with spinal cord injury
